following the release of 2015’s animistas album on mindtours, steevio returns with the fourth and final volume in the modular techno series after starting the project in 2012. initially conceived as he moved his studio practice towards a purely outboard, analogue, modular synthesiser set up, the modular techno series has charted the development of steevio’s exploration of this working practice both on record and on stage. the work involved in live appearances across the uk and europe over the past four years have fed into the creative process, with rehearsals for sets often yielding the material that has ended up on vinyl. volume 4 is arguably the darkest instalment in the series to date, dealing in a strict economy of minimalist rhythms and off-key melodic touches while still easily identified as the unmistakable tones and distinctive grooves of steevio. in the grand tradition of techno as visionary music, the dystopian tone that lingers throughout modular techno vol 4 points to a future of uncertainty, but this is far from nihilistic music, always within the darkness remains a glimmer of hope.

storming into our fifth release from the dirty shores of new jersey, green village is proud to present village elders 001, a compilation ep featuring new material from artists who have already flown the flag for gv. the a-side is held down by the plan b duo of dj spider and dakini9, purveyors of the metro area s dirtiest and deepest house sounds. spider gets toxic a second time,following his 2013 instruction drop with toxic trace 2, a thickly layered deep house cut whose seedy percussion underbelly contrasts vividly with the more traditional deep house pads that accompany it. dakini9 s lost paradise is dark and mysterious like its title, the hats, trumpets, and vocals emerging in tangled webs of dub effects, a strong follow-up to her dope ep for the label. disaroen, a duo from toronto, half of which previously appeared on gv, turns in the most barren of the four tracks, serious doorman, heads-down techno that crackles to life halfway in and an auspicious debut for a promising new group. last is nj heavyweight nicuri, a rising star whose ripples of time closes the ep in his signature searching, melodic style.

after putting the band on the map with their first ep two years ago, the band feathered sun has grown into a life of its own. the more live sets they have played, the better they have defined their style. they are spearheading a brand of sound healing music abstractly narrative, always poetic, sometimes flirting with darkness but always perfectly produced to carry the audience into their own world. feathered sun are the collaborative experiment of nu, jo.ke, raz ohara, chris schwarzwaelder, iannis ritter and acid pauli johannes laumer. each have active and flourishing solo artist careers, albeit still have time to collaborate with one another. the six-strong collective are a close-knit troupe who are primarily based in berlin and lima, peru. live improvisation is ultimately what brought the feathered sun project to life - they are open about their laidback, impromptu approach and this is apparent throughout this ep. side a was primarily crafted in peru by chris schwarzwaelder and jo.ke with raz ohara’s mesmerising vocals. the end material was then sent to nu in berlin who crafted two tracks out of it. the ‘bulbo’ ep shows a willingness to explore different approaches within the collective and the music showcases their long-standing affiliation. it is a downtempo ep that has immaculate instrumentation, dreamy pads and brooding vocals throughout. this is intertwined with organic sounds and moody atmospheric melodies, gives the release a timeless and emotive ambience.

quite a few months have passed since adam port released his last original material on keinemusik. it’s been almost too long. but then again, every expert will confirm, you won’t see a “sonnenfinsternis” every other week. port’s new ep is going under the name of that very astronomical curiosity and accordingly, the like-titled cut on a can only be the result of a rare cosmic constellation. it starts with a spoken word field recording. could it be, someone secretly recorded parts of the internal pre-release labelmeeting? we’ll leave that to your imagination. but then, all solid facts. a forceful beat, decorated with hihat-hiss, stoically pounding synthbass, rattling snare-staccato and space-opening synth-layers. finally, some siren’s wailing, just in case someone didn’t get the immediacy of this material. classy floor substance, that is, with the scarcity value of an eclipse. “working for it”, as the first track on the flipside, is rather going for the deeper realms. this coproduction with jennifer touch, a singer/producer that just moved from leipzig to berlin, is built up on a cosy, warm synth-priming, that touch congenially contrasts with her undercooled wavy vocals. an emotional rollercoaster, if you will.

(180 gr, incl. dl card with previously unreleased material) de beren gieren is a trio of explorers and improvisers that debuted in 2011 and quickly made a name for themselves in the belgian jazz scene. one mirrors many is their fifth album already.

cliques—the collaborative project of sydney, australia based hamish dixon and george nicholas—fuse rolling techno momentum with a sound system focus, culminating in innovative and heavyweight dance floor material. having steadily built a strong reputation for themselves, with crucial early support from dj oneman, and to date they’ve released on aquatic lab, as well as a track on the most recent tempa allstars (‘aut’ - tempa allstars vol.8). they now move on to their first solo project for tempa, the ‘dotted’ ep.

psychedelic relics is the debut release launching tb arthur s own (312) label. this four-track ep comprises unreleased material initially revealed and reveled during arthur s acclaimed live sets at berghain and smart bar in 2015.

the crate-digging credentials of psychemagik’s danny mclewin are well established. even so, he’s excelled himself with the first release on spacetalk, a joint venture with leng records’ simon purnell and paul murphy.
the trio have successfully worked together a lot over the last five years, with purnell and murphy releasing a string of superb collections, compiled by mclewin and psychemagik partner tom coveney. all three men were keen to continue this partnership, and have founded spacetalk to re-release long forgotten, little-known or overlooked music, as well as previously unheard archive material from some of the artists involved.
the label’s first release is as obscure as they come. morrison kincannon’s to see one eagle fly is stupidly rare, having initially been released by its’ creators as a private press record during the early 1970s.

after putting out a string of brilliant singles and ep s in the past few years, slavaki is up with his first artist album. it s hard to believe it s taken him 7 years since the first release, to come up with the idea of releasing a full-length. no wonder, tracks have gotten time-tested, and have been carefully selected out of over 10 continuous hours of material written in the period between the year 2011 and 2015. out on artist’s home label elusive at the beginning of 2016 on limited 2x12 inch vinyl. this album is another peek into slavakis ever-expanding chest of musical treasures that never seems to fail to surprise.
